Glock 42 Review 2022 - Of all the rifles in the extensive Glock line, the Glock 42 is the smallest. So, is it an innovation or a serious competitor?
Glock pistols began as full-sized firearms. Compact models soon followed, and subcompacts joined the line. But it took a long time for single subcompact models to appear. The Glock 17 was the first production model, and each successive variant has a larger number of models. Up to the Model 36 in .45 ACP, only one stack was available, but it was still somewhat comparable in size to the Model 19. The Glock 42 was the next smallest.

There are established names in the ultra-compact .380 market, such as the Ruger LCP and LCP II and the KelTec P3AT. These pistols push the boundaries of how small a semi-automatic pistol can be. Small guns generally shoot worse than large guns, and large guns are generally harder to conceal than small guns. While the G42 clearly favors concealment, it is still a pleasant gun to shoot. Small arms, even when chambered in light calibers, are very agile and painful. The G42 is big enough to stay comfortable. It's the perfect Goldilocks size when it comes to micro guns.
These trade-offs between large and small guns also translate into accuracy, with large guns generally being more accurate than small guns. The Glock 42 was not designed to be a true target pistol. This is a gun designed to be carried in a pocket or ankle, not a bag. He is quite accurate in his role. It's easy to place the circles on the paper where you want them. It's not hard to do it quickly. However, you will find it easier to handle long distances with a weapon that is easier to hold.
The Glock 42 is at the upper end of the price range for .380 micro pistols, which typically cost between $415 and $450. Only metal frame options like the Sig Sauer P238 (which is more expensive to manufacture) come at a higher price. It's still cheaper than most full-size options, but you can have more than one LCP for the price of a G42. Why do you want more than one LCP? I have no idea. But the price difference is worth noting. Glocks are known for their reliability. Their entire identity as a brand is based on the boring reliability you want in a combat pistol. However, full-sized pistols are generally more reliable than their subcompact counterparts. The G42 is still very reliable by industry standards, but is more sensitive to ammo than other models in the Glock line. That doesn't mean it's a jam machine, but it won't work 100% on all ammo, no matter how low quality. It's a good idea to keep track of what practical ammo the G42 likes and test your hollowpoint defensive ammo to make sure it works before you trust it with your life.

There has been much debate about the adequacy of the .380 ACP as a defensive round. This is a step up from the 9mm, which was once considered inadequate for carry. Over the past 20 years, that feeling has changed and thanks to better performance in hollow point ammunition, it is now standard carry. These improvements benefited the .380 caliber, but it is still a lighter bullet and may struggle to meet some testing standards. But while it may not be the best defensive caliber in the world, it's better to have a .380 that you actually carry at home than a 9mm or .45 ACP.
One of the weaknesses of the G42 is the 6+1 capacity. It is an improvement over the J-frame .38 revolver. However, the spare magazines are quite small and easy to carry. Magazine extensions are also available to add one or two extra rounds. Two six-round magazines are included in the heavy-duty case. Another weak point is the sights. Glocks are usually sold with cheap plastic sights that need to be replaced. Plastic sights wear when holstered and unholstered, which can change the point of impact when firing. They also cannot be manipulated with one hand, such as putting the rear sight on a shotgun to shoot. It's a very good idea to upgrade to metal sights, and tritium night sights are an even better idea for a defensive pistol.
The control scheme is the same as other Glocks, there is no manual safety. An internal drop guard and firing pin safety, along with a trigger safety, provide a gun that is safe to carry in a loaded chamber provided the trigger is securely covered. The trigger and frame slide are designed for use by right-handed shooters, but the magazine release can be converted for left-handed use.

Overall, the Glock 42 is an excellent choice in its genre. It's big enough to draw well, but still small. Although the price is probably higher than it should be, it is not enough of an issue to deter potential buyers.

The advantage of the .380 ACP is less recoil, not power or velocity. A .380 pistol, all things being equal, should hit a target more easily than a 9mm pistol. So the trade-off between the two calibers: accuracy vs. damage. Accuracy will hurt you, placing bullets where you want, but damage won't get you accuracy.
